Deccan Auto

Deccan Auto, with an aim of improving the travel experience in intercity buses, collaborated with Advandes to design and develop three variants of a luxury bus - 8 meter, 12 meter and 14 meter. Our goal was to design a bus that delivers an experience which will make people "want to" travel by buses to long distances and make it a means of transport amongst other modes like rail or air.

To achieve our goal of creating an interior that is pleasing to the passengers, we have generously proportioned the circulation space in the passenger seating area. The bus has a continuous glass window that provides a seamless outside view and makes the interior more airy. The exterior of the bus has a commanding road presence owing to its calm yet dominant character. The front full-glass gives an immaculate and chiseled look, befitting the premium segment of the bus.

Design sketches renders and detailed Class-A surfaces were generated to accurately translate the design for our engineering team and then into reality. The structure of the bus ( the chassis, roof, side frames, etc. ) were smartly engineered to build a monocoque structure. Ergonomics was given prime importance while designing the seating structures, bus layout and accessories. High level of modularity was achieved by developing common fixtures for the 12M and 14M variants, increasing the future design flexibility and customizability and reducing the production and inventory cost.

Features like cantilevered seats, illuminated floor guides, utility trays for passengers and individual temperature/sound/light controls ensure passengers more comfort than in mainstream buses. While designing the interiors, the safety and comfort of both the driver and passengers were considered in equal measure. Immense planning went into designing the dashboard, driver controls and the driver's seat, leaving no room for discomfort or strain. Advandes also extended support in the most challenging part of indigenizing a product - sourcing. All the vehicle level, assembly level and component level drawings, along with drawings to support the ARAI certification, were provided by Advandes. The prototype was developed by our prototyping and engineering team in conjunction. Parts like the windshield, dashboard, interior panels, front fascia and the bus structure were developed in-house. Outsourced items like the HVAC system, emergency hatch, door mechanisms and the toilet system were integrated successfully inside the bus. The main challenge was to localize the design as per the ARAI standards for
