The design inspiration is from the shape of a cog wheel and the claw of a lizard. The "cog" since the device is to be used on machines, which themselves has gears and moving components. So, in a machine, if one of the cogs fails, the machine becomes defunct. So this devices was symbolically envisioned as a "cog" in a machine that provides preventive alerts to the technicians before any malfunction occurs, thereby reducing downtime in the form of expensive repairs.

The second inspiration was that of the claw/palm of a lizard. Lizards/geckos grip vertical walls and can even walk upside down with ease because of their grip strength. Now this device has a strong magnetic bottom that clings on to metal surfaces with a considerable clamping force. So we thought it apt to be inspired from nature where in such attributes is observed.
So overall the forms you see are inspired both from the teeth of a cog wheel. And the character lines you see within the volume, from the patterns seen on the palm of a lizard.
